PILLAR 2 OF 5
At Home
A home that works now
and still works in twenty years.
Your home is where the plan lives or dies. A home that works for you at 62 won’t automatically work at 82. Small things become big things. A step you never noticed. A grab bar you kept meaning to install. A bathroom door that won’t fit a walker if you ever need one.
I started looking at my own house differently after my husband came home from the hospital. I noticed things I’d been stepping over for years. The throw rug in the hallway. The low cabinet I couldn’t reach without kneeling. The lighting I’d been compensating for with squinting. None of it was dangerous yet. All of it was going to be eventually.
The At Home pillar is about the physical space. Modifications, lighting, storage, entryways, bathrooms, the quiet upgrades that make a home feel easy instead of a fight. Most of this work is small. Done early, it’s almost invisible. Done late, it’s a renovation. I’ll walk you through what matters most and where to start.
